CCS Camp 2010

Our annual Camp Crystal was held this year on the 9th, 10th and 11th of April.  A huge thank you goes out to the Thompson Family who, for the 21st year in a row, opened their farm gates to other families of CCS.  Twenty six families arrived to partake in the annual weekend getaway.

As always, many a smile was to be seen.  Children with painted faces rode horses, shot bows and arrows, climbed crates, demonstrated exceptional crafting abilities in art, leatherwork, woodwork, and more.  Families paraded across the countryside by stagecoach and horse-drawn carts, experienced the thrills of 4WD and traversing from hilltop to hilltop by a cable-pulley.  The evenings were full of excitement with the magical Yowie hunt, trivia, and musical performances.

Even with all this action, many a parent was spied relaxing by the fire or  enjoying a chat or book over a cuppa.  Several remarked that it was the first time they had sat down to do nothing for ages and how great it felt to be able to enjoy it knowing that the kids were in great hands someplace else having a blast and simply being kids.  Additionally, many comments were made about how much families were sitting, interacting and simply talking to each other, which typifies the ethos of the CCS: ‘Families Helping Families’.

Camp could not happen if not for the long-time support of the volunteers and RAAF.  CCS greatly appreciates the more than 100 volunteers who worked hard to make camp succeed. We extend our gratitude to the following specialist groups who made time in their schedules to support the camp and families of the CCS: Renegade Bowmen (Archery), Bush and Beach 4WD Club, Toc-H, Grandchester Stagecoach, Moreton Region Rockrats (Traverse) and the Heavy Horse Club

In keeping with the true ‘families helping families’ spirit of CCS, a special thanks goes to the many volunteers who are current or previous CCS families.

Here are some of the photos of our families, volunteers and staff enjoying this years camp.
